Father Fitzgerald is a priest for the Diocese of Rockville Centre, and a native of Bay Ridge Brooklyn (St. Patrick’s Parish) however, he and his family later moved to North Babylon (Parish of St. Joseph). Father Fitzgerald went to Ithaca College where he studied History and continued to play Football (Quarterback) and Baseball (3rd Base). Upon graduating from Ithaca College in the Spring of 1993, Father Fitzgerald returned to teach and coach for North Babylon High School before competing for the US National Team Handball Squad (not off the wall) – Team Handball is a Summer Olympic Sport. Father Fitzgerald eventually was selected to the 1996 Olympic Team and represented the United States in Atlanta, Georgia where the Team Placed 9th overall. He later taught, coached and did youth ministry in Marietta, Georgia before returning to Long Island in 2001, beginning studies for the Pre-theology program and eventually the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception in Huntington, NY. He was ordained on June 9th, 2007 and his first parish was St. Kilian in Farmingdale, NY. Since becoming Vocation Director in June of 2009 he has been assigned to Holy Trinity Diocesan High School in Hicksville, Hofstra University in Hempstead, and assists in Vocations for Rockville Centre.
